Septic Arthritis of Sternoclavicular Joint with Mediastinitis
Kim Si-Wook

Hong Jong-Myoun
Abstract
Septic arthritis of the sternoclavicular joint occurs very rarely, mainly in immunocompromised patients. Also, a central venous catheter can be a cause of it. The joint infection without osteomyelitis and wide soft tissue infection may be controlled by potent antibiotics or additional drainage. But it needs operations and a long term hospitalization, if the
arthritis is accompanied by mediastinitis and osteomyelitis. Therefore the early treatment is very important. In this case, we report a septic arthritis of sternoclavicular joint with such complications that was treated by en-bloc resection and a pectoral advancement flap.
